The Fact

Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death in children 4 and under and the second-leading cause of death for children 14 and under, ranking just below car accidents.

Our Solution

Formal swimming lessons/water safety instruction have been associated with an 88% reduction in drowning risk in children 0-4 years old.

Where do most drownings occur?

The Fact

65% of drownings occurred in a pool owned by the victim’s immediate family, and 33% occurred in pools owned by relatives or friends.

Our Solution

Install 4-sided fences around home pools and Use the WAVE Portable Drowning Detection System.

How many children die in USA by drowning?

The Fact

Each year over 380 children in the USA drown and 80% of those are under age five.

Our Solution

We teach kids to take the water safety pledge: I promise to get an adult when I want to go near the water.

On June 4, 2008, Blake and Kathy Collingsworth experienced a tragedy beyond measure: they lost their two-year-old son, Josh, due to complications from a drowning accident. However, their tremendous strength, fueled by love and support from their community, led to the founding of Josh the Otter. It became their mission to make Josh's life a force for good that would last forever. Through education, float lessons, and community events, Josh's legacy will save lives and help families swim safely.
